Essentials of Vitamin D

This will be one of many articles to focus on the area of vitamins in nutrition and supplements.  The Essentials of Vitamin D will cover basic information regarding the necessity of this vitamin and how to more effectively add it to an already balanced diet.  Why do we need Vitamin D?  It is important in many aspects of our bodily functions.  One of the key roles of Vitamin D is to aid in the regulation of calcium and phosphorous minerals found in the body.  It also helps to maintain a proper bone structure.

The recommended daily allowance of Vitamin D is between 600-800 IU, or around 20mcg each day.  Most people shouldn’t have any issues reaching the recommended amount of Vitamin D each day, but for those who are unable to get the right amount from spending time in the sunlight or are Vitamin D deficient, an additional source may be required.  Here are some other resources for getting the right amount of Vitamin D:

Another great way to get Vitamin D is through a multivitamin.  While the difference may be small, it’s very important to include these essential vitamins in one’s index of knowledge when planning a diet or nutrition plan in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
