Dairy products (fat-free or low-fat milk, yogurt, cheese)
Dairy products including milk, yogurt, and cheese among others provide a rich source of potassium and calcium to your diet which helps maintain strong bones and regulate your blood pressure. The Vitamin D most of these are full of also help maintain levels of phosphorus and calcium which in turn help bone strength and increase your ability to lose weight. Sometimes you can even find substitutes like this dry milk.
Eggs are an amazingly great source of high quality protein. Actually, more than half of the protein in an egg is found inside the egg white. The yolk includes protein, but also contains a high concentration of fat. Don’t worry though, in moderation these hearty little white globes of joy will help boost your fat loss and provide wonderful sources of vitamin D, vitamin B6, vitamin B12 and minerals like iron, copper, and zinc. Egg white chips make for a great snack when you’re on the go.
Turkey and other lean meats
Turkey is a lean meat that will provide a powerful protein source to help you build muscle and lose fat. Flavor it with low-sodium seasonings for added flavor. You may also notice an increase in your immune system as well.
Any kind of berry is full of antioxidants. Your body oxidizes over time which causes aging, and by eating berries you can help slow this process (no, it isn’t a miracle food, but will help you feel healthier as you grow). Berries also help you feel more full and prevent random hunger pangs. No more late night junk food snacks! Something else I like to do is include a berry powder into my smoothies or drinks which include some common ones like maqui berry, acai, and others.
Peanut butter, almond butter, and other nut butters are great sources of fat. Look for ones with fewer additives and less sugar than others. Healthy fats like this will increase your body’s ability to process fat and in turn will help you lose more of the fat you’ve already stored in all the wrong places.
Fatty fish (such as salmon, tuna, mackerel)
Same thing as the healthy fats before, but fish are full of healthy omega-3 and omega-6 fats. These also help trigger fullness as well as increase your fat burning potential. You can also augment your healthy fatty oil intake in pill form commonly found in grocery stores or online.
Grapefruit has to be one of my all time favorite foods to eat at breakfast time. Cut it in half and top it with a little bit of your favorite natural sweetener and dig in with a spoon. Hot, hot, hot! Okay, so you don’t need to eat the hottest ones, even some tasty poblanos or banana peppers will do the trick. The hotter they are the more you’ll feel it though. Peppers have capsaicin (which makes them hot), which will increase your metabolism and help burn more fat. Enjoy them with any meal to add flavor and heat!
Spinach and green vegetables
Spinach and other green vegetables are low in carbohydrates and high in fiber as well as a great source of nitric oxide to help regulate blood pressure and fight free radicals. Beans, beans the magical fruit! Well, maybe not a fruit, but they definitely help you build muscle and burn fat. Your digestion will also be improved. Eat beans or legumes moderately and add them into your diet. Flavor them with some garlic powder or basil, or even some delicious Frank’s Red Hot sauce.
